Biennial vegetable. Juicy leaves and large red stalks are used for food. It is easy to grow swiss chard, because it is not demanding to soil. Harvested in 60 days after sowing. The roots dug out in autumn can be planted in the early spring. In mild winters roots can be covered and overwinter in the soil. Grow best in non-acidic, humus-rich loam.
