GLADIOLUS
GLADIOLUS L.
Perennial bulb flowers. Grown in flower gardens. Inflorescences are picked when 2 flowers unfold and 3-4 flower buds show colour. Grows best in open, sunny place protected from winds, in medium-light or loamy soil. Should be watered during drought: 3-4 buckets of water per 1 sq. m. Crop rotation of 4-5 years should be practiced. Bulbs should be soaked in a solution of potassium permanganate or fungicide (0.2%) for half an hour before planting.
NOT ABLE TO OVERWINTER IN THE GROUND.
Should be dug up in the second half of September. Dried tubers should be stored at a temperature of 4-6 ˚C during the winter.
