Hyacinths are plants that can grow up to 45 cm tall, with leafless stems that form large vertical flower spikes of 30 or more blossoms. The vertical spikes have a wonderful fragrance and delight with a variety of colors. The flower can be hollow or solid. One bulb produces one spike, which lasts for 2-3 weeks. Hyacinths grow and bloom beautifully in sunny, spacious garden spots. They thrive in light clay or sandy soils where water does not accumulate. To enjoy the blossoms, regular fertilization with mineral fertilizers is needed. They can also be grown as houseplants. It is recommended to soak hyacinth bulbs in a potassium permanganate solution for an hour before planting. They should be planted in the fall (in the second half of September) to a depth of 5-12 cm, depending on the type of soil. It is common to plant them in small groups, mixing colors. Hyacinths can also be grown in pots, which can beautifully decorate an Easter table. When planting in pots, one-third of the bulb should be above the soil.
